I can get a look at what's installed and running on this machine to figure out the cause of this message. There is a known issue with the most recent version System Mechanic interfering with or rootkit scanner, but there could be other causes as well. This next scanner will not make any changes to your machine on its own, nor will it divulge any personal information that may compromise your security.
Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool from here and save it to your desktop. Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. After you click the Download Now 64-bit, or the Download Now 32-bit, another page will open — DO NOT CLICK ANY ADDITIONAL 'download now' buttons, just wait and look toward the bottom of your browser for the option to Run or Save.Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to the disclaimer.

Note: If you are prompted by Windows SmartScreen, click More info followed by Run anyway.Click the Scan button. When the scan has finished, it will save 2 logs in the same directory the tool was run from. Please attach the following logs: Addition.txt. If you mean the email with the activation key, then yes. And no, I've had no notifications about trovi. It doesn't show up in chrome's options for homepage or search engine, nor in the options IE, which is what I found last time I encountered a browser hijacker (although I did just get a message that an unknown program wanted to change my homepage in IE when I opened that to check it, so if that was it it happened sometime today, but the only thing I've downloaded recently was that tool you sent me).
Sep 25, 2017 Scanner shows up correctly in Device Manager, and I can scan using Windows Photo and the PlusTek Quickscan utility. Message in Launcher is: 'SilverFast was not able to detect any scanner supported by your installed scan module. Please make sure your scanner is connected and turned on. When using USB make sure the scanner is connected directly.
I so still see a hook, so I'll remove that after we reinstall Malwarebytes. Download and run 'mbam-clean.exe' from here:. It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so (this is very important) Next, download and reinstall the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware version 2.2.1 from here: Save the file to your desktop then double-click it to begin installation.
At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to the following: 'Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware' Click 'Finish'. When the program launches, it will check for Updates. After the update completes, look in the upper right corner and click the 'Activate' link and enter your license information. You will have to enable the rootkit scan function via Settings 'Detection and Protection' Place a check in the box next to 'scan for rootkits' Let me know if the rootkit scan will now take place. This is why I like to review the logs before you clean what is found. I'll report those to the developers, in the meantime, If the Scan results are still open, click the Folders tab and uncheck these 2 folders: C: Users Eleanor AppData Roaming SendSpace C: Users Eleanor Documents Birds After you've done that, then let it clean up the trovi hook - click the Cleaning button.
It will require a reboot so make sure you close anything you may be working on before you click the button. Let me know how things are afterward. I'm having the same problem as the person above.Gallifreya. I'm running 7pro SP1 64bit.I'm following the advice you gave the above person and will attach my files as you instructed.
(Reid) I do not believe I have System mechanic installed. Thank you for yourhelp.
Since I'd shut off my Win 7 updates to pre vent w10 last year I've had lots of problems with hang boots etc. I don't want 10 and don't know how to update what I need. I'm wondering if this is part of the problem. Often to get my computer to book I start in Safe Mode and then restart from that menu which gets me there. Thanks again. Beam Edited February 25, 2017 by Beam. Thank you for your excellent assistance.
That seems to have fixed that problem. Your instructions were a bit different than the way it appeared but I figured it out.
There is no way to save the 2nd file to desktop. No save button but I knew it was in Downloads. It took a really long time to update. Not sure why but just letting you know, and there was no Activate link, and the key was already in place. But after checking rootkit I scanned without any incidents and rebooted w/o the 20025 msg. Thank you so much.
Keep on these nasty bugs. We don't want them to inherit the earth!

- and so I can't power up the scanner. But the installation routine seems to have gone just fine. Possible hiccup right at the end, when there was a long 'agreement' from Samsung, with a 'More' button at the bottom left hand of the screen, and I had to keep hitting Enter to get to the end of that agreement, where there was a line about answering y/n to the agreement - y, of course!
- but right below that there was another line saying 'terminated by user'. Not sure if that implies that my 'y' has been accepted or no. Will try using the scanner when the power returns - and get back to you - hopefully, with gratitude, and not further bewilderment!
